Battle Of Finland Values


Generally

Battle Of Finland mission generator uses many different indexes when creating missions and some "decisions" made by generator may cause irritating results for players. Anyway, such things happens and this page is trying to give answers why the missions are sometimes "unbeliveable".

Amount of aircraft

Bombers (BA) - maximum amount is 6 planes. Requester can put it lower and define type.

Transports (SUM) - maximum amount is 6 planes. Requester can put it lower and define type sometimes.

Ground Attack planes (BD, JAB, TOR) - amount is 4 planes, defined by generator.

Fighters (EBA,EBD,ESU,EJA,ETO,EC,ES,ER,ET,INT) - amount is defined by requester, maximum is 8 planes to attack/defence role.

Amount of ground targets

Targets in cities and airfields are defined by generator depending how large target area is and when target is airfield its damage (%) defines how much for example AAA there is. Types of ground targets are defined in servers configuration file.

Targets in field bases (camps) are defined by generator and their capability to defence (rate of fire, skill etc) can variate depending the status of the sector.

Attacking ground forces amount is three (3) groups of tanks, each has 3 tanks so total is 9 tanks. In BOF we have added two (2) convoys so attackers will have total around 25 moving ground targets. Type and final amount of tanks and vehicles is defined by generator - it actually uses some kind of randomizing which can be affected by campaign admin.

Attacking naval forces amount is 5 ships. Two of them are armoured gunboats or destroyers and the last three are merchant ships. Defenders have 1-2 static destroyers or gunboats depending how strong the sector is.

When ground supply mission is requested, the generator creates 5 supply car columns. Those convoys will head to target city and each survived vehicle will increase city´s supply status.

Planning a supply mission (SUM)

When requester is planning a SUM mission he selects if he is going to use human or AI controlled planes or if one selects army supply there will be only supply convoys as told above. If he selects human controlled planes they must be flown by humans or there will not be any success. SUM is counted when appropriate aircraft has reached target city AND landed safely to home base. When SUM plane is flown by human, one must select default weaponry and 100% fuel, use wingtip smokes (max 3 times) over target city and land to some friendly base - one can also make crash landing staying alive, then only city supplying is counted.

Minimum distance from takeoff airfield to target city is 30 km - defined by generator. This explains when SUM mission is not available - the last operative airfield is too close selected target city.

Planning a bombing mission (BA)

Requester selects amount and type of bombers as written above. The take off airfield have to be in suitable range from target city, airfield or enemy HQ and minimum acceptable distance to target is 30 km. This explains why BA mission is not available - the last operative airfield is too close selected target city.

Planning a sector attack mission (TA)

Requester selects target sector which is next to frontline. Some sectors are not attackable for three reasons. There is ongoing attack to selected sector (30 min limit), the sector is not attackable by template (no tank waypoints) or there is a "healthy" city on desired sector (city damage have to be over 50%).

To take a sector - land or sea - needs actually two things. The attackers (ET or ES - fighters) have to keep 60-80% attacking forces (vehicles/ships) alive AND they have to be alive defined mission time. Vice versa if defenders, BD+EBD or TOR+ETO role planes AND field bases tanks and artillery manage to destroy over 60-80% attacking tanks, vehicles or ships before defined mission time is reached the sector is saved.

If sea sector is taken, parser will give several sectors around it as a bridgehead. This way acrossing sea won´t take so much time.

Several distance limits for generator

These are values that the generator uses when creating mission and selecting takeoff airbases.

BA -mission: Minimum 30km, max 80km

SUM -mission: Minimum 30km, max 80km

TA -mission: Minimum 10km, max 80km

INT -mission: Minimum 2km, max 80km

Overall values for generator and parser

- minimum amount of human players is 6. 3 players of each side.

- minimum acceptable mission report time is 20 minutes.

- target can be reselected after 30 minutes.

- attacking tank groups can use different tank types in missions.

- AI type is randomized - when bad weather they are at least normal level.

- If there is only AI guided planes, they will have airstart in different altitudes near takeoff base.

- ground control is available (radio is ON) in 90% of missions.

- weather is randomized, mostly good/clear - only few percent are storm and rain.

- field bases and attacking forces waypoints are randomized.

- BD/TOR/JAB planes are randomized when available.
